For a ceramic capacitor, ceramic is used as dielectric and the ceramic matrix is coated on both sides with silver layer which is fired by low-temperature to silver film as the plate. The shape of majority of ceramic capacitors is slice and there are also tube-shaped, round capacitors.
Ceramic capacitor is the generic term of all capacitors that use ceramic materials as dielectric. They are of wide varieties and their boundary dimensions vary considerably.
1. According to the service voltage, ceramic capacitor can be categorized into high-voltage ceramic capacitors, medium-voltage ceramic capacitors and low-voltage ceramic capacitors.
2. In accordance with the difference of temperature coefficient and permittivity, there are NTC(negative temperature coefficient), PTC(positive temperature coefficient), ZTC(zero temperature coefficient) ceramic capacitors and high-permittivity and low-permittivity ceramic capacitors.
3. Besides, ceramic capacitor can be also divided into high-frequency and low-frequency ceramic capacitors.
Generally speaking, compared with other capacitors, ceramic capacitor owns several advantages below:
1) used at high temperature;
2) higher specific capacity;
3) good resistance to moisture;
4) small dielectric loss;
5) a wide range of temperature coefficient’s choice.
